Privacy policy

Who is responsible

Friends of Carlos Moreno, Salt Lake County, Utah. For anything about your data write to [email protected]. This is a campaign website, not a Salt Lake County website.

What we collect and why

• Volunteer form: name, email, phone (optional), city, how you want to help and your message. We use it only to contact you about volunteering and campaign events.
• Updates signup: name and email, to send you campaign updates (one email a month at most, with an unsubscribe link in every message).
• West Side poll: your answer. To keep it to one answer per person per day we store a one-way, salted code derived from your IP address and the date for 24 hours. The IP address itself is not stored, and no name or email is asked.
• Email you send us: we keep the correspondence to answer you.
• Technical data: Cloudflare, which hosts and protects the site, processes your IP address and browser details to deliver pages and block attacks, under the Cloudflare privacy policy.
• Visit statistics: we count page views with Umami, a self-hosted analytics tool that uses no cookies and stores no personal identifiers, and with Cloudflare's cookieless aggregate analytics. We see totals, not people.

Donations

The Donate button takes you to Donorbox, which processes contributions on its own site under its own privacy policy. The committee receives the donor information that campaign finance law requires (name, address and, where applicable, employer and occupation). Utah and Salt Lake County law require contributions to be reported to the Salt Lake County Clerk, and those reports are public records.

Who we share it with

Only with the providers that run the site for us, and only for that purpose: Cloudflare (hosting and security), Resend (sends the form emails), Zoho Mail (our mailboxes), Donorbox (donations) and RootBiz, the agency that builds and maintains this site. We also disclose information when the law requires it, such as campaign finance reports or a valid legal request. We never sell your information and never give it to other campaigns, parties or organizations for their own use.

How long we keep it

• Form submissions: a copy on the site's server for up to 180 days; in the campaign mailbox through the end of the current election cycle (2028), or until you ask us to delete it.
• Updates list: until you unsubscribe or the campaign closes.
• Poll codes: 24 hours. Poll totals are kept without any personal data.
• Contribution records: as long as campaign finance law requires.

Your choices

Write to [email protected] to ask what we have about you, to correct it or to delete it. We answer within 30 days. If the law obliges us to keep something (for example a contribution record) we will tell you. Every update email has an unsubscribe link, and you can reply STOP to any text message.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies, so it shows no cookie banner. After you answer the poll, your browser keeps a small local flag so the page remembers that you already voted; it stays on your device and is not sent anywhere. When you leave for Donorbox, YouTube or a social network, those sites apply their own cookies and policies.

Children

The site is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child sent us data, write to us and we will delete it.

Security

The site is served only over HTTPS, uses strict security headers, is monitored around the clock and backed up every night. Access to the mailboxes is limited to the campaign team. No system is perfectly secure, so we keep the data we hold to a minimum.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will post the new version here with a new date. This policy is governed by the laws of the State of Utah.
